About UltraFlat

UltraFlat has been servicing the needs of the Optical Industry since 1977. We specialize in extremely close tolerance work in the optical field, as well as creating precision granite standards used to determine the accuracy of tools and measuring instruments. Ultraflat's work has ranged from production and repair of optics for commercial production, optics for the theatrical and motion picture industry, to work for Nasa.

Brad Bammerlin, our chief of production, has over thirty years experience in the optical industry. While an employee for Herron Optical (a subsidiary of Bausch and Lomb) he ground many optical components for the motion picture industry, including components for the Twentieth Century Fox Cinemascope lenses as well as elements for Panavision lenses.

Ultraflat entered the motion picture field grinding critical components for both the taking and projection systems of Stereovision International, the leader in three dimensional motion picture imaging. Ultraflat has serviced many of the world's finest motion picture optics, including Zeiss, Cooke and Schneider taking lenses, grinding replacement parts as well as reconditioning existing ones. Clients include Panavision and Clairmont Camera (a major camera rental house in Hollywood.)

In 1992, Ultraflat was approached by the senior projectionist of Filmservice Laboratories in Hollywood to see if xenon reflectors could be reconditioned. A technique was developed improved, and now xenon reflector restoration is one of the most popular services offered by Ultraflat.
